On 09/21/2026, Rodrigo successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis.

Congratulations Dr. Tomas, the first Ph.D. graduated from the lab!!!

Over the past three years, Rodrigo has worked several projects that aim to study the contribution of repeat expansion protein pathology and the disease risk repeat expansion variants to Alzheimer's disease. His research has led to several important discoveries, including the characterization of an AAV mouse model of the Alzheimer's risk repeat expansion variant in caspase-8. His next work aims to dissect the stepwise molecular mechanisms that repeat expansion pathology and disease risk variants lead to AD neuropathology, like tau hyperphosphorylation.
